David Jacobs wrote Good Golly Ms. Mollie from the story Alvin S. Franklin brought him. They met at the City of Huntsville transit system, where Alvin trained David on the buses. Alvin shared his papers and the story of Lucy Beasley. David turned them into a novel. Their publishing name DNS Books stands for David and Stone. David is the writer's first name and Stone is the storyteller's middle name.

David Jacobs was born in Savannah, Georgia, where he attended Savannah State University and Armstrong University before graduating from the police academy. He served as a police officer for fifteen years, and his working life has also included radio, television, teaching, and social work. A father of five, he has called Huntsville, Alabama, home for more than a decade, where he leads a youth ministry at Madison Mission Seventh-day Adventist Church built around voice work, theatrical plays, and gospel stage productions.

Alvin S. Franklin was born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Flint, where he graduated from Southwestern High School. He has spent his working life in transportation, moving from trucks to buses to the cross-country routes he still drives today. He left Detroit's pace for Alabama's slower one and never looked back. The documents that inspired this book came to him from his grandmother, and he has spent more than twenty years keeping them safe and working to understand what they hold.
